ABOUT US

Catskill Claws Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2017 for girls and boys in 6th-12th grades.  We are a sanctioned mountain bike team in the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) and the New York Interscholastic Cycling League.

Our mission mirrors that of the NICA organization - building strong minds, strong bodies, and strong characters by building communities through cycling with an emphasis on inclusivity, there are no try-outs necessary to participate.  Participation results in improved confidence and competence on and off a mountain bike, in addition to learning good sportsmanship, social skills, and providing students with a sense of camaraderie they appreciate.

Mountain biking is a satisfying lifelong sport which promotes a healthy active outdoor lifestyle that will continue long after high school and often influences other healthy choices as well, including diet and nutrition.  Most people don’t know that cross country mountain biking was introduced at the Olympics held in Atlanta in 1996 and is now one of the fastest growing school sports today.
